The Future of Star Wars Genesis
Star Wars Genesis will continue to receive updates for a very long time. There may be time periods where updates slow down during the release of major MMOs and similar games (like Guild Wars 3) or during major moments of my life (marriage/kids), but rest assured that Genesis will never be abandoned.
Star Wars Genesis 10.0
As we approach closer and closer to 10.0, I’d like to clarify what exactly 10.0 will be, and what it won’t be. Star Wars Genesis 10.0 will be a Star Wars experience from start to finish, meaning you will not be exposed to vanilla content and/or immersion breaking moments that take you out of the experience, and you will not encounter any disabled quest roadblocks. It will ultimately set Genesis up for expansion releases that will be save compatible for the most part. So what exactly does that mean?
The most important aspect here is the quests. For those that don’t know, Genesis is implementing a “passage of time” mechanic associated with major questlines. When you first start the game, the year is 2 BBY. When you complete either the Imperial or Rebel Questline, the year transitions to 0 BBY, where the Galactic Civil War questline opens up. When you complete that questline, the year becomes 1 ABY. This ultimately divides the Genesis galaxy into phases:
- Phase 1 is 2 BBY – 0 BBY
- Phase 2 is 0 BBY – 1 ABY
- Phase 3 is 1 – 3 ABY
This “passage of time” mechanic also means that most side quests will be designed in a way that they make sense regardless of what phase of the galaxy you’re in. It also means that the galaxy WILL noticeably change, and you may lose access to certain quests/locations. The most notable ones being how you will see planets like Scarif transition from tropical to apocalyptic, or Alderaan just completely disappear from the map.
These “phases” make it easy to define what Star Wars Genesis 10.0 will be:
- Phase 1 (Imperial and Rebel Questline) (and possibly 1 other questline)
- Phase 2 (Galactic Civil War Questline)
- Full Main Questline
- Most Side Quests
- Model replacements of most things (props, ships, etc)
- Conversion of most vanilla locations
- A variety of standalone content and the gameplay loops associated with it (planets, locations, etc)
- A ton of other stuff not in the list
Star Wars Genesis 10.0 will NOT include:
- Phase 3 (Galactic Civil War Questline 2)
- Shattered Space Questline Conversion
- Ryujin Questline Conversion
- Lower Priority Side Quests
Anything not included will be released as “expansions”. For example, the Shattered Space conversion and all it’s side quests may be Star Wars Genesis 11.0, and vice versa (we don’t have a specific order yet).
Lastly, there will still be updates that happen in between these expansions as well, such as 10.1, 10.2, etc. These updates will include anything from new standalone locations, armors, weapons, etc to new gameplay improvements and gameplay loops. And of course bug fixes, performance improvements, and general upkeep.
