Modified Install Guide

WARNING

This is a guide on how to modify Star Wars Genesis further against my will. You should be aware that you will receive limited support if you modify your list. I don’t have the time or patience to help everyone that does so and encounters issues because of it. You should also be aware that you are putting your save at risk of corruption depending on the types of mods you install, especially when there’s a new Genesis update. If you cannot control yourself and install 50 new mods and then update Genesis, do not come crying to me about how it doesn’t work. Please refer to my Modified Save Guide for futureproofing your additional mods to potentially survive Genesis updates. No guarantees.

Additionally, you must only ask for help in the #Modified-Install channel of my Discord. This is because your issues are low priority due to most probably being caused by what you’ve done to the list, and not what I’ve done to the list. I have extensively tested the list and know nearly all the bugs with it. You aren’t helping anyone by throwing bugs at me in the normal help channel and misleading me with your modified list. I can help you better if you’re honest and I’m aware you are running a modified install.

Mod Organizer Basics

This is a short guide on the basics of Mod Organizer 2. if you’ve never used Mod Organizer 2 before, I highly recommend reading up on this. While the Genesis discord can be helpful, it is not a technical support discord on mod installation. Please do some research beyond this guide if you’re running into a specific issue.

Warnings

  • Please don’t update mods in the list unless you know what you’re doing. Especially armor mods and balancing mods. For example, if you updated Ascension in V4, then everything would become a bullet sponge. If you updated UC Empire in V4, then all stormtroopers became vanilla. There’s a reason these mods aren’t updated. They are outdated on purpose.
  • HUD MODS: Please refrain from downloading any HUD mods uploaded or updated BEFORE August 20, 2024. This WILL break many aspects of your game.
  • Do not use LOOT on the modlist or you will break everything. If you use LOOT, you no longer are playing Star Wars Genesis. You are playing a mess.
  • If I find that you’re repeatedly asking for help in the normal help channel with a modified list, I will unfortunately have to give you a role that limits your chat privileges to only the Modified Help channel and the News channel. You have to understand that for the average person discovering Genesis for the first time, it looks bad when the Help channel is full of people talking about crashes and dozens of other scary issues caused by your modified genesis installs. I hope you can understand why I’m make this clear distinction between modified and vanilla Genesis installs.

Wabbajack Exceptions

When you update Genesis using Wabbajack, it will automatically delete any additional mods. You can tell Wabbajack to NOT delete a specific additional mod by renaming the mod inside Mod Organizer and adding [NoDelete] to the front. An example is shown below. Spacing matters.

  • [NoDelete] Star Wars Dildo Overhaul

If you choose to NOT add [NoDelete] to the front of an additional mod you installed, you are making it worse. Wabbajack deleting the additional mods doesn’t delete the mods from your save. If you try loading a save that had a bunch of additional mods deleted, it is probably going to instantly crash or have tons of issues. That’s on you. Understand that additional mods are a commitment. Either you add [NoDelete] to the front of each one and pray it works each update, or you just let Wabbajack delete all your additional mods and start a new save.

Bug Reporting

Using a modified list does not mean you are exempt from me helping you with unrelated issues such as installation issues. It also doesn’t mean you can’t report any bugs. It’s a common sense basis. If you’re encountering voiceline issues in a story and you have 5 mods that just add extra armors, it’s obviously okay to report a bug.

Valid Use of Help/Bug Report Channels

  • Installation issues with Wabbajack or Mod Organizer 2
  • Environmental issues if all you did is install armor mods
  • NPC issues if all you did is install armor mods
  • Voiceline issues in most cases

Invalid Use of Help/Bug Report Channels

  • The new armor mod you installed looks different or is broken
  • The 50 gameplay-altering mods you installed cause crashing or bugs while you’re playing
  • The 50 ship customization/standalone ship mods you installed cause crashing or bugs while you’re playing
  • The ship vendor no longer sells the right ships
  • The NPC overhaul mod you installed broke an NPC like ND-5 and turned them back into Vasco
  • Etc
Creation Store

I would personally just avoid the Creation Store unless its a very well known and well-made mod that you’re downloading. If a mod is on both Creations and NexusMods, then get it from NexusMods. The Creations Store is very prone to breaking and corrupting your modlist/save. If you desperately want a mod from the Creation Store, do NOT open the store with your Genesis install. Instead, launch vanilla Starfield through Steam, enter Creations, download your mod, go to the Starfield folder and take the files and put it into a newly created Mod Organizer 2 mod. If you have no idea what I just said, I would highly recommend that you just not download that Creation Store mod.

Also I would make sure you don’t accidently pirate a paid mod. There are definitely no websites out there that let you download paid mods for free. Respect the hard working scammers verified creators by NOT pirating.
