Star Wars Genesis takes place in 9 BBY, 10 years after the events of Revenge of the Sith. However, the galaxy is different than what you imagine. Genesis features it’s own unique lore and universe, very similar to but separate from the canon Star Wars universe. It is essentially fanon, including what I consider the best aspects of every era. This gives me the creative freedom to do things that I otherwise can’t do in any other Star Wars game available.

I don’t want to fight the Empire, Crime Faction 1, and Crime Faction 2 like we’ve been doing for the past decade. I want to fight the Sith Empire, the Yuuzhan Vong, Mandalorians, Sith Lords, etc. I want to wear cool armor because they’re cool and not skip out on them just because they don’t fit the same era. I want to feel how I felt playing KOTOR and SWTOR for the first time. Being immersed in a familiar yet strange galaxy.

Basically what I’m saying is, I sacrificed some immersion for a gameplay benefit. It’s something actual Star Wars games should do more. Give themselves more freedom for a better experience for everyone. At the end of the day, you’re setting yourself up for failure by restricting yourself to an everchanging canon storyline with hundreds of plot holes written by dozens of different people with different opinions, goals, funding, etc.

Just look at Force Unleashed. Is it canon? No. Is it better than Star Wars Outlaws or the Jedi Survivor series story-wise? Hell yes. That doesn’t mean we’re going deep in fanfic though. We’re are still remaining grounded and respecting the source material. You are not going to kill Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader. You are not going even going to encounter most of the Star Wars major characters. At the end of the day, you are a regular person in a giant galaxy full of people.

I want you guys to experience the WAR in Star Wars. That is my ultimate goal here. A galaxy with countless factions and sub-factions fighting and you in the middle of it. The Empire is struggling to maintain their grip after the exile of their Emperor. The Rebellion is booming under their new partnership with the Hutts. The Shadow Collective have complete reign over the hyperspace lanes, effectively splitting the galaxy into two. The Sith Empire has emerged after years of dormancy, marking everyone in the Galaxy as their enemy. The hidden Yuuzhan Vong have initiated their first steps in conquering the Galaxy, with a much deeper secret that connects everything together.

There will be deadly Separatist remnants. There will be friendly Clonetrooper remnants. There will be notorious crimelords and crime factions. There will be cunning swoop gangs. There will be vicious animals. There will be familiar faces. There will be lightsabers. There will be force powers. There will be everything.

Official Timeline

Note: Please keep in mind that is a lore dump. Nearly everything in here is naturally explained to you as you play through the game. It is not necessary for you to read this to understand what is going on.

7944 C.R.C. | 33 BBY

The Yuuzhan Vong enter the timeline from the World between Worlds. These are the remnants of the Vong that lost in the original Legends timeline.

7945 C.R.C. | 32 BBY (same year as Phantom Menace)

The Yuuzhan Vong kill Darth Plagueis and indoctrinate his apprentice, Palpatine, who is serving as the Senator of Naboo.
Under the manipulation of the Yuuzhan Vong, the Queen signs the Treaty of Naboo and allows the peaceful occupation of her planet by the Trade Federation.
With Plagueis’ former wealth, the Yuuzhan Vong fund the creation of a clone army for the Republic under the guise of Sifo-Dyas, implementing the Order 66 protocol as originally planned.
With their influence and control in the Republic growing, the Yuuzhan Vong order the early design and construction of an Orbital Battle Station at Taris Shipyards.
A young Anakin Skywalker is found by the Jedi Order on the planet of Tatooine.

7955 C.R.C. | 22 BBY (same year as original Clone Wars)

The Trade Federation uncovers the Orbital Battle Station project and, viewing it as an existential threat, formally declares war against the Republic.
The Senate, blaming the sitting Chancellor for the crisis, votes to remove him and installs the indoctrinated Palpatine as a replacement.
The Republic discovers the clone army on Kamino and officially begins the Clone Wars at the Battle of Geonosis.
Sarah and her crew get ambushed and crash on the planet of Serenno, where she is stranded for the next year.

7958 C.R.C. | 19 BBY (same year as original Revenge of the Sith)

The Shadow Collective is formed on Mandalore by Darth Maul.
The surface of Taris is seemingly vaporized, killing trillions. The Republic and Confederacy agree to a ceasefire.
The Republic is re-formed into an Empire with Palpatine as Emperor. The Jedi Order is wiped out and all existing clones are slowly decommissioned. The Confederacy is dissolved.

7959 C.R.C. | 18 BBY (this is where things deviate immensely)

The Emperor breaks free from the Vong’s indoctrination and exiles into Deep Space. Hope spreads across the Galaxy, and the first signs of a Rebellion forming is seen.
Sarah leaves the Empire and joins Constellation.
The Empire, who the Yuuzhan Vong no longer indirectly control, bomb Mandalore due to the unchecked growth of the Shadow Collective.
The remaining Shadow Collective under Gar Saxon retaliate by successfully infiltrating an Eclipse Star Destroyer above Mandalore and taking control of it. The newly formed Rebel Alliance joins the battle as a third party and pushes the Imperial forces out.

7960 C.R.C. | 17 BBY

The Galactic Civil War officially begins. The Rebel Alliance establishes their capital in Dantooine and places numerous bases across the Galaxy
The hyperspace lanes between Rebel and Imperial space are overrun by Shadow Collective sanctioned pirates, effectively splitting the Galaxy into two.

7961 C.R.C. | 16 BBY

The Empire establishes an extensive mining campaign on Geonosis and other planets for war resources.
Some survivors of the planetside bombing of Mandalore find a hidden cache of Neo Crusader armor among the ruins, adopting their ideals and using it as motivation to fight the current Imperials mining the planet for Beskar. Imperial Commando strike forces are sent to handle the threat.
Sith Loyalists attack the neutral shadowport of Port Haven, triggering what’s known as the Emperor’s Crusade.

7963 C.R.C. | 14 BBY

The Rebel Alliance establishes neutral relations with the Hutts, including security and trade.

7964 C.R.C. | 13 BBY

The Yuuzhan Vong release Voxyn across Dantooine.
The Yuuzhan Vong begin collecting artifacts.

7965 C.R.C. | 12 BBY

The Yuuzhan Vong release a new Rakghoul virus upon Kijimi in order to steal an artifact from the secret Imperial Base during the chaos.
The Empire evacuates and bombs Kijimi due to the outbreak, leaving behind a single forward operating base.

7967 C.R.C. | 10 BBY

The containment of the Rakghoul virus is proven unsuccessful, as Rakghouls are now seen in countless settled systems across the Galaxy.
Port Haven is occupied and rebuilt by the Empire

7968 C.R.C. | 9 BBY

Geonosis is officially sterilized by the Empire
The player character discovers an artifact.

TLDR

The Yuuzhan Vong mess with various things behind the scenes.
Naboo’s Queen signs the Trade Federation treaty instead of calling for help from the Jedi.
The Clone Wars still happen between the Republic and Separatists.
Darth Maul still forms the Shadow Collective.
The Clone Wars prematurely end due to Taris being blown up.
Order 66 still happens and the Republic still converts into the Empire.
A crazed Palpatine goes halfway across the Galaxy and forms his own Sith Empire.
The Empire bombs Mandalore early due to the Shadow Collective gaining too much power and influence.
It doesn’t help.
The galaxy gets effectively divided by two due to heightened Shadow Collective presence.
It is currently an ongoing but slow and painful war between the Empire and Rebel Alliance, with the Shadow Collective, Sith Empire, and countless other organizations smack in the middle of it.
