Armor Balance

Armor balance in Star Wars Genesis is completely different from vanilla Starfield. I’ve designed it in a way that it’s both easy to understand and a nice balance between cosmetics and defenses.

Essentially, 10 resist = 1% damage reduction. And this goes all the way up to 95%, where it caps. That means any resist above 950 is useless and keeps you at 95% damage reduction. In case you’re confused, here’s some examples:

  • 450 Resist = 45% Damage Reduction
  • 800 Resist = 80% Damage Reduction
  • 950 Resist = 95% Damage Reduction
  • 1000+ Resist = 95% Damage Reduction

Beyond just the base armor, helmet, and backpack are armor addons and accessories. These usually provide some sort of perk or defensive bonus and are named according to their slot, such as: [L Shoulder] Duraplast Plate

This is where it all connects. If you wear a shoulder plate addon that gives 50 resist on a Mandalorian Armor that already has 950+ resist, then you gain no benefit. And that’s realistic. Wearing duraplast over beskar just doesn’t make sense. But wearing addon armor slots over a normal armor with 700-800 resist that you like the look of, will push it to be more in line with these endgame armors that are already sitting at 95% capped resist.

Of course, there are still limitations to this as well. There is no future where some sort of cloth armor in the 30% resist range is ever going to be pushed to 95%. If you really want that, you can use console commands to raise the resist of a specific armor you like. In the future when we have some sort of stamina based dodge mod, cloth armor will provide bonuses to stamina.
