Star Wars Genesis 8.6.0 Patch Notes

This update is a big step for Star Wars Genesis, where we are not only getting the Imperial Quest rewrite, but also disabling most major unconverted content such as the Ryujin, Shadow Collective, and Shattered Space questlines. This will allow me to continue developing Genesis with the peace and mind that players aren’t unknowingly doing these questlines and ruining their experience.

Please read up on our Existing Save Documentation page if you want to see a list of issues introduced each update for existing saves, and how to possibly fix them.

Imperial Questline
  • The UC questline has been reworked and rewritten into an Imperial Agent story centered around a new Rakghoul threat. Work together with key figures in the Empire such as Grand Moff Tarkin and Grand Admiral Thrawn to investigate the origins of this new rakghoul mutation, while battling off rebels, infected colonists, traitors, and a unique enemy/ally that’s never been seen before in Star Wars Genesis.
  • This is the first ever questline rewrite to feature additional choices beyond the vanilla questline. Kill NPCs that were previously essential, threaten them without any background requirement, mind trick them with your force sensitivity, and more.
  • Depending on your final choice, you will have access to a future questline involving the war between the Rebellion and Empire. Your choices actually matter.
  • Completion of the first quest in this questline prevents the Empire from interrogating you if arrested (Crimson Fleet Questline)
Lightsaber and Force Sensitive Foundation
  • Three unique lightsabers have been added to Star Wars Genesis
  • Lightsabers (and other melee weapons) now force you into first person while in combat. This is a temporary choice I’ve made so that I can finally add lightsabers and balance them around Genesis without waiting for some miracle animation framework. The way the Starfield third person melee system works is that you cannot swing and move at the same time, which feels terrible. However, the first person melee system in Starfield DOES let you swing and move at the same time. Lightsabers will be locked into first person for the time being until we get better third person animations.
  • Players can acquire variations of kyber crystal colors from the revamped Imperial Mining sites and change the color of their lightsaber as long as they have the relevant Artifice experience (new Perk)
  • Lightsaber Deflection is a new perk you can level in your Combat tree, with various restrictions. Non force sensitives can only deflect up to 25% of blaster bolts, while untrained force sensitives can deflect up to 50%. For 75% and 100%, you will have to acquire regular and advanced Lightsaber Training (which is not yet in Genesis)
  • After a certain point in the Main Story, the player character acquires a hidden Force Sensitive perk.
  • Backgrounds such as Jedi Purge Survivor, Inquisitorium Survivor, and Denied Jedi have been added, granting the player the same Force Sensitive perk. For now, these backgrounds serve as just roleplay and a method in which to be force sensitive without the main story, but there will be unique dialogue choices associated with them in the future
  • Robes and other similar garments have been given bonuses such as force power recovery speed, force reserve increase, etc to incentivize using them over stronger defensive armors.
  • A new vanilla+ perk has been re-added back to the game called Control Mind. It requires force sensitivity to invest points into it and grants you the ability to briefly command and control enemies
  • Upon becoming force sensitive, the player obtains a new innate skill called Force Reflexes. When activating it with the T keybind, time around you slows while your force meter drains.
City Revamps
  • Nar Shaddaa exterior has received a considerable revamp, adding a skybox and new assets. This revamp is still largely WIP, and the illusion of the skybox is apparent at certain times of the day
  • Coruscant has received additional lights, NPCs, and props. The Inspectorate interior now has a Coruscant overcity skybox
Immersive Jetpacks
  • Genesis now has real jetpack hovering with animations. Press Ctrl+Space to enter hover/fly mode and touch the ground to get out of it.
Ships
  • Added the Firespray-31 Gunship to the Nar Shaddaa Ship Vendor with 4 color variations
  • Added the Ramsidian-Yacht to the Coruscant Ship Vendor
  • Most of the OP or useless ship parts from Star Wars ships have been removed from the cluttered ship builder menu (reactors, shields, empty modules, etc)
  • Similarly sized “Micro-hyperdrives”, “Micro-shield generators”, etc have been added to the ship builder and are properly balanced in the form of being expensive
  • Removed the handplaced YT-1300 and N-1 Starfighter as they have grown to be obsolete with the vendor introduction and aren’t worth the bug risk associated with them (inaccessible ship door)
  • Star Wars Genesis is officially compatible with Ship Vendor Framework
Retcons
  • Much of the Starfieldwars mixed lore has been completely removed with the newly added Imperial Questline. The Genesis timeline on the website has been rewritten to be closer to canon grounded storyline rather than a full on fanfic with plotholes.
  • Port Haven is now a Merchant Station (Imperial Controlled)
  • The Kuat System has had its planets properly renamed, with Kessel and Sullust being removed from them
  • Tons of other small retcons, such as the leader of the Moff Council being Tarkin instead of Tavira and so forth.
Vanilla Content Cleanup

Due to officially having 3 questlines near fully converted, I’ve opted to remove the the other 3 remaining major quests for the time being along with some side quests. This is because too many people were doing them thinking they’re converted into a proper storyline and then getting disappointed. And then I would often see those people talking bad about Genesis saying stuff like “the storylines are just starfield with 2 words replaced. it’s overhyped”, which obviously is a bit disingenuous when there are multiple 5+ hour long completely rewritten storylines to do in 8.6. The same goes for youtubers/streamers that did the unconverted questlines infront of hundreds/thousands of people, which I can’t blame them tbh because the game just throws these shitty quests at you. So this is simply the best course of action for now. These questlines are locked behind being greater than level 9999 on the back-end, so I would simply remove that condition for them when they’re properly converted so you can play them on your existing saves.

  • Faction Quests
    • Ryujin questline auto quest start from advertisements has been disabled. The manual method where you talk to the leader remains but the quest title reads “DO NOT DO THIS QUEST”
    • Getting arrested by the Empire no longer gives you the option to work with them. Instead, you are interrogated and then wrongly thrown to jail. You will receive an optional quest to join the Rebel Alliance after, and it will be labeled “DO NOT DO THIS QUEST YET”. This will remain the method in which to join with the rebels in the upcoming Rebel vs Empire storyline. You would naturally start the Imperial side of this story after finishing the Imperial Agent storyline (1 of the 2 choices only)
    • The Shattered Space questline has been disabled
  • Side Quests
    • First Contact quest has been soft disabled
    • Groundpowder quest has been soft disabled
    • Operation Starseed has been soft disabled
    • The Audition has been soft disabled
    • The Mantis quest has been soft disabled
    • Removed all silly and lack of serious space encounters from the game, such as the grandma, school bus, jokester, etc.
  • Unconverted Star Wars Planets
    • Added “Coming Soon” labels to existing planets that have just been renamed with no actual biome changes such as Kashyyyk, Naboo, Felucia, etc
Voicelines
  • Much of the idle Stormtrooper/Rebel/Hutt soldier voicelines has been rewritten to be more natural and universal around their specific faction. The vanilla game reuses the same exact idle voicelines for all factions, which obviously wasn’t ideal.
  • Much of the generic crowd voicelines that only had a word or two replaced with Star Wars terms has been completely rewritten and replaced to be more immersive
Locations
  • Many vanilla looking locations have been overhauled. Most of these locations are directly related to the Imperial Quest, with other remaining locations coming soon
Performance
  • Updated to the latest version of Engine Fixes, which came with notable improvements.
  • Actor collision movement fix (let’s you crouch under stuff properly)
  • File handle limit increase (will decrease crashes and infinite loading)
  • Added the Shader Cache Reset Tool as an executable inside Mod Organizer 2, allowing users to easily wipe shaders with seconds
  • Offloaded a few duplicate textures from Coruscant due to new Star Wars Resources requirement
Alternate Start Revamp
  • The alternate start menu has received a revamp, as there was confusion related to starting loadout names and roleplay elements. Starting loadouts are now neutral and named accordingly
Artifact Visions
  • Completely replaced the artifact vision sound, keeping the original vanilla effects while adding 19 variations of Zeffo voiceovers to them, and ending them off with 4 variations of KOTOR music themes depending on the voice
Balancing
  • Progression in Genesis is a bit too fast. Since this is an unleveled world, I want to reward exploration, crafting, and questing in order to obtain the best gear. It was never intended for you to get legendary drops off of regular scavengers and use that armor until endgame. Many changes have been made that transform Genesis into a more curated/handcrafted experience.
  • Many armors have been given unique curated perks to further incentivize non-mando playstyles. For example, ship bonuses for pilot armors, pistol dmg bonuses for smuggler armors, stamina boosts for light armors, crafting bonuses for scavenger armors, etc
  • All random blaster perk rolls have been removed from the enemy loot pool. Curated weapons will continue to drop from their respective methods
  • Nearly all random armor perk rolls have been removed from the enemy loot. Curated armors will remain
  • The research tiers of Beskar Forging now require points invested into the Chemistry and Armormech perks
  • Added 3 perks to the Krayt Dragon Scale armor to make it legendary and fitting for the grind
  • Added 3 tiers of Lightsaber Resist perks that will be given to specific armors
  • All sniper rifles have been given the Marksman perk, which causes 2x additional sneak damage.
  • The Mantis/Mandalorian quest has been soft disabled
  • Buffed the 773 Firepuncher.
Roleplay (Backgrounds, Traits, and Perks)
  • Additional backgrounds have been added for more roleplay oriented starts, such as Imperial Training, Great Purge Survivor, Mandalorian Foundling, etc. These backgrounds provide unique dialogue across major questlines
  • Many existing traits and backgrounds have been rewritten to be less Starfieldy
  • A few vanilla Starfield perks have been renamed and rewritten to be lore accurate. Most of these terms were taken from SWTOR
    Armor Design -> Armormech
    Astrodynamics -> Astrogation
    Medicine -> Biochem
    Blaster Engineering -> Armstech
    Geology -> Archaeology
    Botany -> Bioanalysis
    Droid Tinkering -> Cybertech
    Aneutronic Fusion -> Hypermatter Stabilization
    Boxing -> Echani
  • A new perk called Artifice has been added and is required to modify lightsabers
Batuu Planet
  • The vanilla Bardeen system has been replaced with the Batuu system
  • Bardeen III is now the planet of Batuu, with 3 distinct biomes featuring their ancient spires
  • This is a foundation planet for a project that patientwave is working on
Imperial Mining Sites
  • Kyber Crystal Clusters at mining sites now have a low chance at dropping specific colored kyber crystals but are guaranteed to drop 1-4 Kyberite (a low value contraband)
Environmental
  • Changed any logo/art related to Red Devils to Imperial as they don’t exist anymore
  • Changed Mining Conglomerate logos to Mining Collective logos
  • Changed name of Chunks to QuickSnacks from Biscuit Baron
  • The Taris facility area in the main quest has undergone some touchups/updates
  • Dozens of vanilla props and furniture have been replaced with Star Wars variants
  • Kyber Crystal Briefcase contraband has been replaced with Encrypted Imperial Data as the model was too lorebreaking
Sith Empire
  • Due to a very generous gift, many new KOTOR Sith Trooper armor designs have been added into the Sith Empire enemy armor pool
  • The Night Trooper armors have been removed from the armor pool and will return in a Dathomir focused update in the future
  • The Death Trooper armors have been removed from the armor pool and will remain Imperial exclusive
  • Sith Loyalists have been renamed to Sith Soldiers
Misc.
  • The trainer on Tython is now an optional boss. I’m assuming I don’t have to elaborate.
  • Replaced the weather on Taris with Sandstorms instead of Thunderstorms
  • The Imperial Surplus now sells a full stock of generic Imperial armor and 1 random Combat Accessory every day
  • Rewrote description of Player/Enemy damage gameplay options to refer people to the Genesis difficulty settings
  • Rewrote console command warning message to refer you to the wiki

  • Replaced a handful of unconverted vanilla voicelines that I missed in the YV Main Story
  • Mismatched blaster attachment descriptions have mostly been fixed and additional ones related to magazines have been rewritten
  • Fixed incorrect armor value on clothing NPC variant of Stormtrooper Security armor
  • Added a condition to the Vong Armor research so that it only appears after meeting them onboard their ship
  • Changed Annie Wilcox’s last name to Wexley to match her mother
  • Fixed the incorrect armor and price values on a variant of Dark Trooper Armor
  • Fixed incorrect armor and price values on Painted Mandalorian Helmet
  • Removed leftover bleed perks on certain blasters
  • Nearly all backpacks/jetpacks with double names at the end have been fixed
  • Fixed the leftover “Mustafar” in the Corellia system
  • Fixed mismatched blaster keywords for E-11 and Relby
  • Renamed the Stormtrooper Armors with pauldron color variants their lore accurate names
  • Flagged Clothing variants of Stormtrooper Armor as Non-Playable to avoid duplicate loot
  • Got rid of the Star Wars Genesis logo in the character creation HUD for ultrawide monitor users due to crashing. Ultrawide users will see the Argos Extractors logo instead.
  • Got rid of the second Kestro City accidently placed on Jinata 1
  • Fixed a few leftover occasions where super strong armor (like darktrooper) was being found on random NPCs
  • Fixed an issue where some variants of Vong were still spawning with blasters instead of their toxic melee weapons
Integrations and Cleanup

A total of 10 plugins have been integrated into Genesis in some sort of way. Integrations are important to do over time to keep the modlist in a healthy state. Starfield modding is still in it’s infancy state, and there are many limits to it such as the ba2 and plugin limit. Without mods like Armor Compendium and Genesis Override, we would have reached these limits all the way back in V5.

  • The Patrol Trooper and Imperial Ground Crew plugins have been integrated within Armor Compendium. These NPCs will show up as naked on existing saves, and will have to be disabled/enabled or recycleactored. Tutorial how (very easy) will be in the Existing Save Documentation
  • The Oola and Huttslayer plugins have been integrated into the NeonEntertainmentReplacer plugin and will cover any other future skimpy star wars stuff. These NPCs will show up as naked on existing saves, and will have to be disabled/enabled or recycleactored. Tutorial how (very easy) will be in the Existing Save Documentation
  • The Trade Authority plugin has been integrated into Armor Compendium. The 8 NPCs wearing the armor will show up as naked on existing saves, and will have to be disabled/enabled or recycleactored. Tutorial how (very easy) will be in the Existing Save Documentation
  • The Aurebesh plugin and any assets associated with them have been added to my Prop Replacement and Environmental Immersion pack
  • Integrated the scripted jetpack plugin quest into Genesis Override
  • The ByeByeConstructables plugin has been removed as there’s no need for it anymore since all mods that required it have been integrated
  • Removed the X-34 plugin as it was just a dummy one
  • Integrated Rug Seam Fix plugin and assets into Star Wars Genesis Vanilla Bug fixes
  • Updated all the hairstyle mods to the latest versions and removed their No RFTP patches
  • Merged NASA revamp into prop and environmental mods
