Star Wars Genesis 8.5.0 Patch Notes

This is a pretty beefy update. The Rebel Alliance story is complete. Countless props of all sizes that appear in nearly every interior of the game have been replaced. The armor system has been completely revamped. Capital ships and megastructures have been introduced. A significant performance patch has been added to address anyone that still has menu lag. Jabba’s Palace along with Temple Guardians are here. And of course countless bugs have been fixed.

Please read up on our Existing Save Documentation page if you want to see a list of issues introduced each update for existing saves, and how to possibly fix them.

Rebel Alliance Story
  • A complete rewrite of the Freestar Collective storyline, featuring thousands of completely new voicelines for an original story experience. Work undercover for the Rebel Alliance as a mercenary, hunting down Saw Gerrera and investigating a conspiracy that could change the outcome of the civil war.
  • Dozens of characters have been completely changed. I’ll let you guys experience it all for yourselves.
  • You’ll be seeing a few retcons in this story that makes Genesis a bit more in-line with the canon star wars universe such as:,
    • The “official” rebel presence on Nar Shaddaa being removed and converted into a smuggler presence
    • The Alliance Medical Frigate in Kuat being converted into an Imperial Medical Space Station and a Cardan-class space station model being placed over it
  • Please note that while the entire story is rewritten, any companion interjections and standalone conversations about the story are not converted yet. The same goes for any perk specific dialogue options such as ones where you see such as [Gangster] in the front of it. Understandably, I did not replay the story with every perk combination present in the game. If you spot a perk dialogue that doesn’t make sense, please put it in the Discord’s bug report channel so I rewrite it later
Prop Overhaul
  • Dozens of nasapunk vanilla crates, containers, and other similar objects that are used across the game in cities and POIs have been replaced with Star Wars ones instead. Many vanilla locations look completely different now and can pass as Star Wars more.
  • This is still an ongoing project. Shoutout to EncryptedStudios for spending hours of his day making the new props match the exact height, width, and length of the vanilla props. And shoutout to your donations for making it possible.
  • Countless Star Wars props have been added to the outpost build menu
Temple Guardian Boss
  • A Temple Guardian boss now spawns at each temple. In order to gain the power, you must defeat it. No more minigame/puzzle
  • Upon killing the boss, the player may loot a guardian core. These currently have no use, but they will in the future
Blaster Impact Effects and Grenade Explosions
  • New unique impact effect for all blue bolted blasters
  • New unique impact effect for all green bolted blasters
  • A few grenades have new effects and buffed/nerfed damage. The main one that got a total rework is the thermal detonator. Try it out!
  • Shoutout to Mojo for going above and beyond and making this possible. He is also working on a blaster bolt rework that should make it to 8.6
Armor Resist Rebalance and New Armor Slots

Armor resist in Starfield and old versions of Genesis cap at 85%. I have changed the formula and made some adjustments to make it simpler and more rewarding.

  • Armor resist now caps at 95% instead of 85%
  • You reach the 95% cap at 950 phys/energy resist
  • All armors in Genesis are now between 0 to 1000 armor. Most armors have stayed the same, as I didn’t want to dramatically nerf existing armors in this rebalance. All 1000+ armors have been reduced to be below 1000, and will for the most part be stronger than before because they are between 850-1000 resist, meaning they have more than 85% resist now.
  • Some armors that had too high of a defense compared to other armors near them have been slightly nerfed

6 new functional slots have been added to Genesis. These differ from the apparel slots in that they give a functional benefit, such as increased armor, special perks, and more. They are rotated on the black market on a daily basis.

  • Individual left and right shoulder slots. Current options include duraplast blast plates that increases armor, as well as an ammo straps that increase reload speed
  • Individual left and right thigh slots. Current options include explosive ammo wraps that increase explosive damage
  • Individual left and right ankle slots. Current options include bacta ankle wraps that automatically heal you when below a certain HP
New Armors and Shop Updates
  • Krayt Dragon Armor is now researchable (at any Research Station) and craftable at the Biotechnology Station with scales dropped from Krayt Dragons on Tatooine
  • Added multiple variations of Clone Commando Armor, Helmets, and Packs at the black market vendor. These all share the same inner leveled list, so as the black market supply expands, specific clone commando armors will be harder to acquire. For example, let’s say there are 10 armors that the black market rotates, meaning there is a 10% chance to get a specific armor. I have all the clone commando armors as a singular armor slot in the leveled list. Meaning that if you specifically want a yellow/black commando armor, you will have to win that 10% chance, and then also win against all the other commando paint variations. Basically, it’s a double lottery to get a specific commando variation.
  • Added Tantel Armor to the black market
  • Removed non-Imperial armors from Imperial stores
  • New female rebel outfit available in rebel storyline if you kill a certain someone
  • Some variants of partisans now spawn with an Imperial Scout Trooper helmet painted with the Partisan logo
  • All accessories and armor addons start with brackets in their name such as [Hood] and [L Shoulder] to make it easier to organize in your inventory
Standalone Deserter Story
  • The Empire has set their eyes on the planet of Saleucami as a possible location for Imperial deserters and is looking for loyal citizens to help them investigate. Meet new characters and make choices that truly matter in this new standalone story made by the talented Genesis mod author PatientWave
  • Depending on your choices, you may gain access to a special vendor that sells unique Clonetrooper armor and addons.
Capital Ships and other Mega Structures
  • The Shadow Collective homebase above Mandalore is now an Eclipse class Star Destroyer
  • The medical facility above Kuat is now a Cardan-class Space Station
  • The ring around Kuat is now a proper orbital array model
Stealth
  • Stealth was really bad in 8.4. NPC’s pretty much had wallhacks. Sorry about that.
  • Massively decreased amount of noise made when sneaking while undetected and cautious
  • Buffed the Stealth perk levels to turn you into ghost recon at level 4
Performance
  • Reverted back to the static pause menu, as a small number of Genesis users who still experience menu lag on low VRAM machines rely on the pause spam to fix it, which the transparent pause menu seems to have made impossible
  • Added the recently uploaded Memory Fixes mod which further addresses and minimizes menu lag as well as any crashes that may occur in hour long play sessions due to memory leaks
  • Updated to the latest version of Starfield Engine Fixes
First Person Support
  • While Genesis is primarily a third person modlist, volunteers like Mojo have gone above and beyond to line up many of the existing iron sighted blasters so that they shoot and aim properly. While many blasters still don’t have triple A iron sights, the first person experience with most of them is definitely better
Jabba’s Palace
  • Mos Eisley has been expanded with a completely new area to explore in the outskirts of the city, courtesy of radiclown and Fox
  • There isn’t really much to do here right now besides killing the Rancor. I will add quests in the future if they don’t
POIs
  • A few of the fortified POIs now have unique biome specific characteristics and features, decreasing their repetition
Coruscant
  • One of the last remaining issues with lighting was with Coruscant, and it had to do with the fact that certain weathers made it too dark and bloomy. For now, I have reduced Coruscant to only 1 weather set (clear) and will expand it with a curated set of weather in the future that does not have this issue.
  • Added a bar in the upper area of Coruscant to fill in one of the empty circles and filled it with npcs
  • Worked on the interiors of some of the MAST building floors, such as adding holo-tables and holograms, changing textures, adding npcs, etc
  • Added an extra apartment in the undercity that you can buy and live in
Bounty Hunting
  • Bounty targets available to find through the scanner after completing the Bounty Hunter’s guild quest now have a 40% chance to run away when scanned and may or may not have armor equipped instead of clothes
Faction Behavior Changes
  • Trade Federation and Banking Clan ships are now recognized as independent factions. You will no longer be attacked by them in space if you have a Rebel/Imperial bounty
  • The Imperial Armored Commandos in the vault now recognize if the player is an Imperial or not
Main Menu
  • The vanilla main menu animation with Star Wars text has been replaced with a unique Star Wars Genesis logo animation. Shoutout to fivver and your donations for making that possible.
Bug Fixes
  • Fixed an issue where acquiring force powers through the Trainer on Tython broke your force essence counter. Potential fixes for existing saves will be in the update guide
  • Most docking issues should now be fixed with the “No Landing Bay or Docker Limit” mod removed
  • Added the respawn flag to the apparel and droid vendors so that they respawn if they fall off the ledge and die
  • The forward left walk animation when you’re holding a pistol has been fixed
  • The Boonta Brawler’s armor value was fixed
  • Fixed bug with Refurbished Goods quest
  • Fixed floating attachment issue on DC-15
  • DC-15 variants are now properly named
  • Buffed the low fuel amount on small ships
  • Fixed issue where some enemy procgen bosses had gamorrean traits and features while being invisible
  • Fixed the heavy mandalorian helmet not having a model when dropped on the ground
  • Fixed the invisible heavy mandalorian backpack bug that periodically occurred (thanks radiclown)
  • Removed the random start option from the alternate start menu as it was way too buggy
  • Fixed extremely bright cryo-furnace at night
  • Removed the Starfield logo when opening the settings menu from the main menu
  • Fixed leftover “Hopetech” text at door at Gallofree
  • Wilby toy with bugged collisions has temporarily been removed
  • Replaced vanilla references in some magazine collectibles
  • Replaced vanilla references in some perks/skills
  • Buffed the low damage on the gamorrean vibroaxe
  • The “Mos Pelgo Settler Attire” that’s defaulted on NPCs with no spacesuit entry has been flagged as non-playable (you won’t see it as loot anymore)
  • Fixed Imperial Moff Blaster’s rapid fire bug
  • Corrected overly high defensive value on the heavy variant of the pure beskar jetpack
  • The turrets in the Kijimi vault are no longer aggroed by the commando bosses
  • The Yuuzhan Vong mini boss npc that spawns after leaving temples now has melee weapons instead of blasters
  • Replaced some additional voicelines revolving around the main story, such as some references to Veris Hydan
  • Replaced some unconverted Matteo voicelines related to main story
  • Fixed invisible droid in Taris main story mission
  • Hair placement of Yuuzhan Vong ponytail fixed
Misc.
  • Added a proper water planet placeholder of Manaan and retconned the old one
  • More lore friendly Stormtrooper idle dialogue
  • Adding warnings for settings that you should not enable such as Vsync, Dynamic Resolution and Diaologue Camera to the ingame menu itself.
  • Renamed and rewrote the descriptions for all the velocity drinks into Star Wars variants
  • New custom Taris Shipyards logo
  • Bounty Hunter’s Guild logo replacer
  • Replaced andor mural with rebel alliance logo
  • Replaced remaining vanilla snowglobes to holocrons, made them contraband, and increased their selling price to 50,000 credits. We’ll get better and varied models of these in the future
  • Changed whatever the “First” faction’s decal was to the Partisan logo
  • A light version of crozzbow’s minor NPCs and Factions has been added, where I’ll slowly implement the outfits myself in similar/different ways. This is to avoid the infinite loading situation that happened during 8.0 release
  • 2 characters in the Rebel quest have been given versions of smuggler outfits
  • Madame Sauvage has been given a new outfit (same as crozzbow’s original mod)
  • Raised bribe requirements:
    • Small remains 1,000 credits
    • Medium is now 10,000 instead of 2,500 credits
    • Large is now 50,000 instead of 4,000 credits
Integrations and Cleanup

Below are plugins that have been integrated into Genesis in some sort of way due to having 0 issues over the course of multiple updates. Or mods that are simply unnecessary at this point.

  • Removed the alternate paradiso solution mod as we are long past vanilla lore extensions. It was causing too many issues than it’s worth
  • Integrated Mojo’s Lodge Quest plugin into Genesis Override
  • Integrated ship ramming plugin into Genesis Override
  • Integrated player speed revised into Genesis Override
